Ravana falls
Ravana Falls is one of the most famous and stunning waterfalls in Sri Lanka, located in the Ella region, in the central highlands. It stands at about 25 meters in height and is surrounded by lush greenery, making it an ideal spot for nature lovers and photographers. The falls cascade down a series of rock faces, creating a dramatic effect, especially during the monsoon season when the flow is strongest.
Ravana Falls is named after the legendary king Ravana of Sri Lankan folklore, believed to have hidden Sita in the caves near the falls. The waterfall is easily accessible from the Ella town and offers a peaceful retreat with a tranquil pool at its base. It’s a great spot to relax, enjoy a picnic, or take a refreshing dip in the cool waters.
The best viewpoints for the falls are from the roadside or a short walk down the hill for a closer view.
Ravana Falls is around 6 km from Ella, 165 km from Colombo, and 40 km from Nuwara Eliya, making it a popular stop for travelers in the central highlands.
